'Winter Moon' Cushion Cover

What a wonderful collaboration! Irene Klar works with a Cottage Craft group in Kashmir, in the northwest of India, high in the Himalaya Mountains. Irene has designed a selection of cushion covers. She selects yarn for the embroidery from 98 colors in her studio. They are 100% wool and the dyes are colorfast. An identical chain of colors is kept on location in Kashmir. 
 
Stencils are transferred onto canvas and the materials are distributed to farmers in villages around Srinigar as a part of the cottage craft industry. During summer and winter, when their crops do not receive much attention, the farmers can do embroidery in their homes. Each cushion cover is embroidered by hand on heavy gauge cotton. Each piece is individually done and is based on the Irene Klar design. They measure 18" x 18" and can be stuffed with a standard insert or with a 20" x 20" feather insert. Some people display them as small wall hangings. Whether placed on a sofa, bed, or on the wall, they will make a wonderful and colorful addition to your decor.
