About
Art of Circumstance: Art and Artifacts Created by Japanese Americans Incarcerated During World War II opens November 5th through April 30th in the Museum. This exhibition highlights the Arizona Historical Society's collection of Tokutaro "Kakunen" Tsuruoka's compelling watercolors, created during his incarceration in Poston, Arizona. Tsuruoka's pieces, as well as other incarcerated artists' works, exhibit how internees used their creative spirit to help dilute the reality of their incarceration.
The art and artifacts displayed in Art of Circumstance include objects on loan from the Arizona Heritage Center, Arizona Historical Society in Tempe, Arizona.
